A Spatial Biosurveillance Synthetic Data Generator in R

چکیده
Introduction Development of new methods for the rapid detection of emerging disease outbreaks is a research priority in the field of biosurveillance. Because real-world data are often proprietary in nature, scientists must utilize synthetic data generation methods to evaluate new detection methodologies. Colizza et. al. have shown that epidemic spread is dependent on the airline transportation network [1], yet current data generators do not operate over network structures. Here we present a new spatial data generator that models the spread of contagion across a network of cities connected by airline routes. The generator is developed in the R programming language and produces data compatible with the popular ̀ surveillance’ software package.

Integrating a Commuting Model with the Bayesian Aerosol Release Detector
The Bayesian Aerosol Release Detector (BARD) is a biosurveillance system for detecting and characterizing disease outbreaks caused by aerosol releases of anthrax. A major challenge in modeling a population’s exposure to aerosol anthrax is to accurately estimate the exposure level of each individual. In part, this challenge stems from the fact that the only spatial information routinely containe...
متن کاملSpatial cluster detection using dynamic programming
BACKGROUND The task of spatial cluster detection involves finding spatial regions where some property deviates from the norm or the expected value. In a probabilistic setting this task can be expressed as finding a region where some event is significantly more likely than usual. Spatial cluster detection is of interest in fields such as biosurveillance, mining of astronomical data, military sur...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...

Event-based biosurveillance is a scientific discipline in which diverse sources of data, many of which are available from the Internet, are characterized prospectively to provide information on infectious disease events. Biosurveillance complements traditional public health surveillance to provide both early warning of infectious disease events and situational awareness. The Global Health Secur...
متن کاملERMO-DG: Evolving Region Moving Object Dataset Generator
It is often essential to create datasets with foreseeable characteristics. For the design and testing of advanced spatiotemporal pattern mining algorithms, adaptable and large datasets are needed. In this paper, we present a synthetic dataset generator, ERMO-DG, that is intended for creating spatiotemporal patterns. Generated datasets consist of spatiotemporal object instances of different feat...
